Senior Engineering Student looking for advice on investing

Hello everyone,

I have not done an introduction post yet so here is a quick one before I get into my question. I am a senior at the University of Kentucky studying Biosystems Engineering. I have been listening to BP for about a year and a half as well as occasionally reading through the form. Since I have been in college I have been living in crapy old frat houses within walking distance to campus because they are cheaper than apartments. But they are still pretty expensive compared to houses just 10 minutes down the road - that are way nicer. I have some savings from working as an Engineering intern for 2.5 years. I know I want to get into REI but I am not sure if I should go for it now or wait until I graduate. I have met with one of the top REI in my home county. He thinks I should spend this last year learning more but I would like to hear all your alls opinions too. My current lease is up July 31st so I have to figure out something soon. Also, I do have student loans and will have no help from family members on this endeavor.

So my question is: Should I try to buy something now or wait until I graduate in May 2021?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

As a fellow engineer of a fair number of years, focus on your engineering career, assuming that’s what you want to pursue. Let’s assume long distance real estate mgt will be harder. Also, this is investing and not a job. How many people do you know “invest” in stocks and become a “Wall Street” trader as an “investor.”

Develop your primary income so that you have funds and can get financing to do REI. It sounds like you have your hands full between school and your internship. You don't need a third "job" dealing with tenants, leaky sinks, broken down washing machines, etc.

It’s great you are full of gumption, but as you are doing with your education, learn and bide your time. Unless you are a “rockstar,” don’t set yourself up for failure.
