getting started as an investor

I'm going to be graduating law school in a month. I want to (1) secure employment and then (2) get serious about investing. How should I go about getting started? I've read some books but am just looking for any additional practical insight about what my first steps should be.

Try and get a good paying job and stay there for 2 years, while doing that research what you want to do to death then use your job to get the loan on your first property and build up from there.  Rome wasn't built in a day.
