Property inspector and an investor?!

Hey all, 

       I am curious to see if anyone is a property inspector as well as a real estate investor. I was wondering on how it has been trying to do both and if you do both what type of Real estate investing do you partake in and why? To me it seems like a good entry into investing  with learning what to look at before purchasing a property as well as networking with the individuals in the area. 

A little background information on me- I have no investment properties at the time and have been trying to thoroughly educate myself before diving in. Im interested in PM the first couple of properties as well as utilizing the BRRRR strategy for my first property. I am in the military currently, my wife and I are looking to move from Southern California when I finish my enlistment at the end of next year.
