Good idea to start with a renovation loan?

My wife and I are looking to start our real estate journey. For our first property we all looking into using the VA renovation. Does anyone have experience using this renovation loan or the 203k loan. Most of my research is coming from a lender‘s point of view, I would love to hear from a buyers point of view. Any feedback would be great.
