Roth IRA or save to invest in real estate?

Hello all I was wondering if it would be a good idea to open up a roth ira account and save for retirement.Or save that money that im going to put into the roth ira and purchase my first investment property and save for retirement thru realestate investing instead.Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.Thanks
