I have not purchased my own home yet, but would like to in the near future. I want to get started on real estate investing. So would it be smart to purchase a rental property first?

Hi Ema, everyone's situation is different. Depending on your needs, wants and time you could either focus on gaining capital or buying a rental. If you have some cash to invest now I would definitely try to househack a multifamily (live in one unit and rent the other). While you live there, you can then start planning and saving for the next rental or project.

Best Wishes,

Sabrina
