How to get into property management and learn quickly

Bart Bachrach
Posted

I found my way into property management after getting a B.S. in History and finding a job posting for a leasing consultant. The property I work at has 402 units with people all across the spectrum. Obviously for those of you more established a baseline job at an apartment complex won't work, but for those of you just starting out in life, this is a great opportunity. I find myself learning new lessons about renting apartments and managing them, including the finances behind it, every single day. I have learned so much about apartment maintenance as well as handling problem tenants. I also gain an insight into the prevailing rents throughout my area and what makes the difference to tenants today and what the large companies are investing in. For the recent college grads I urge you to look into doing property management professionally, if for no other reason than the great resident stories you can share!
