Hi,

My name is Andre' and I'm new to bigger pockets. I'm 39 years old. I've owned my property for 10 years, and it's been an amazing journey to say the least.  It took me 2 years of due diligence to find this place.  As a former IT engineer for HBO, even though I had hit my financial goals, I still felt empty and unfulfilled due to the woes of the rat race.  I was dealing with some sideways racist BS at work, and I had had enough of it.  After talking to my finance at the time, and deciding to quit my job, I started looking for property.  I should say that the only reason I was able to do this is because of my team.  I wife and I both made good money at the time, and we already had a mortgage position with her income alone.  This allowed me to leave my job, and my house hunting my full time job.  I had a friend who was running a construction business.  While I was looking for property, I though it would be a good idea to work with him in order to get comfortable working on rehabs since that was my goal with investing.  I also did research on 203k and hud loans during this time, as once I found out this was possible, I intended to use these financial tools to my advantage.   After 2 years of working on projects, networking, and putting in hundreds of offers (I had a huge spreadsheet), we were finally able to close on a 2 family in white plains.  Our place was old and needed some work.  It also came fully rented and with some violations that we were obligated to resolve.  I definitely had my ups and downs, but we made it though together.  It was this process that really made me realize how valuable it would have been to have someone with some experience on my team.   Now that I know the value, I do my best to be there for those in my network and give them the advice they need to help propel them towards their investments even faster than they would alone.  I had also have many issues with contractors, and I have my share of nightmare stories that got me sick and in the hospital.......but I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. It's been the single greatest investment I've made and it changed my life forever by giving me the flexibility to stay home and raise my 3 year old son.  Now that this investment is stable and doing well, I'm looking to expand my community and buy some more investments in the area, as well as Florida and Hawaii where we plan to move soon.  If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out.   Maybe I can help you avoid some of the mistakes that I made.  I wish you good fortune.
