HOW TO APPROACH OTHER INVESTORS

Good afternoon,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to approach other investors in my area? I am really wanting to get into real estate, but my main issue is experience. I am on BP everyday listening to podcast, and searching through the forums soaking up all of the information that I can. I am wanting to help other investors in any way that I can, in order to learn from them. I understand that I need them more than they need me, and I want to benefit them as well. Time is money in this industry, and I don't want to waste anyone's time. Any advice on the right and wrong way to approach this situation is very appreciated.

Hi @Joshua Romero and welcome to BiggerPockets!

I have good news: The steps you need to take to be appealing to other investors are the exact same steps you need to take to be effective here on BiggerPockets. Here are two suggestions:

  • Be Visible - Nobody wants to interact with an unknown quantity. Attending local real estate investors association (REIA) meetings is a great way to achieve some exposure. Here on BP, I'd start with adding a picture and some details to your profile.
  • Show You're a Giver - Nobody wants all the knowledge sucked from their heads with nothing offered in return. You can offer to shadow other investors while they're out working (for free, of course). Here on BP, show you understand give-and-take by answering a forum post when you can. At very least, vote for posts you find helpful!

When I'm approached by a new investor, the first thing I do now is check to see if they are on BP. If they're not, I have to wonder how serious they are. If they are, I check their recent posts to see how they've interacted with other members of the community here. Jerks and ungrateful takers get none of my time.

Hope this helps!
