Invest while under debt?

Im new to the world of investment properties and have been researching techniques via podcast and audiobooks. Although Id like to start right away, I cant help but feel that I should tackle the good amount of debt Ive accumulated. Should I learn as much as possible before going to a bank and asking for a loan?
