Standing on the REI springboard terrified to take the plunge

Hey guys, I'm hoping for some advice to encourage my foray into REI.

So quickly here's a snapshot of my current situation. Im 35,living in the suburbs of Seattle. I own my own small business that did about $150K each of the past two years(this year will be significantly leaner as I lost a large account). I have about 100K in savings and around $250K in equity in my house. I built that place when I was young and dumb(21) and didn't know enough to be cautious LOL. But now as I've gone through a recession cycle I'm way more timid. If you were in my shoes how would you advise me to proceed (obviously I'm not gonna hold anyone accountable for any advice).

Thanks ahead for your time.
