Experienced Chicago Real Estate Investor Questions

Good evening,

I am finishing up the book on buy and hold real estate by Brandon Turner. The book suggested asking other investors who are more experienced for their advice on profitable strategies and their general experiences in your city. Chicago is one of the largest cities in the U.S so I'm assuming it can be very competitive to find good deals. What is the current climate for real estate investing specifically those who do buy and hold?  What strategy do you use to gain an edge to find good deals? Do you invest in urban communities and what is your experience if you do? I'm still ways from doing this yet. What areas seem to be the most profitable and which ones should I avoid. Just looking for some guidance. Feel free to comment below or direct message me. Thank you so much for your help in advance!
