Where Do I Get Started With Rental Properties

So I just got approved for a home buyer loan and really want to purchase a rental property. Only thing is I don't know where to even start. I have a few properties in mind I just don't want to make any mistakes by running off of emotions and jumping into the first deal I see because I'm excited. I don't have any knowledge on this topic and was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. At this point I haven't done anything but got approved. So before I go any futher I'm seeking some advice to make the smartest move financially for me and my family. Thanks
