Stocks or Real estate?

Have about 5 grand in savings and would love to start investing in Real Estate. Only problem is even with a HML doesn't seem like that would be enough to cover down payment, interest payments, closing costs etc.

Does it make more sense to invest this money in some stocks or keep socking away more money for REI?

@Michael Noto

I’m new to BP/ investment and looking to invest on rental properties. What would be a sizable saving for real estate. I’m currently living in Westchester county in NY, and home prices are high. Somehow I have a personal feeling that i should invest in a property accessible to me. Not sure if it’s a right thinking. Any advise is high appreciated.
