career options for a prospective RE investor
Dear all,
As I have to make a career decision within the next months i need a career advice...
My goal: fix & flip and then buy-and-hold residential RE as a private investor / in a JV in the german residential RE market. In the next years I´d like to gain experience / network in the profession working in a company without risking my own money.
Currently I´m doing an internship in Construction Management, working on residential and mixed-use projects. Completed Bachelors in Architecture, finishing Masters in (general) Management.
I can be hired by my company after half a year (small size / low wages). Now I am looking to get into Technical Asset Management (maintenance / refurbishing) or (Re-) Development of residential RE in a bigger company with better wages / perspectives / education. Having a business degree I am able to get in the financial/business field of RE working on leasing / RE financing after couple of years as well.
My idea was to start house hacking during the job. Maybe try switching to part time while refurbishing/refinancing it and continuously expand my RE portfolio after getting into full-time investment.
Do you think I should continue to work in the technical field of RE? That could be helpful if I wanted to start in a JV so I would provide some technical, construction skills to s.o. who is not interested in the dirty job but has the money?
Or should I try to get into the financial side of RE right away? That way I´d be able to work part-time whereas working in Development usually requires to do it 50+ hours a week.
Starting out as an investor right now seems to be problematic as the next recession is coming + I enjoy to work for a company (for a couple of years).
As I have mentioned earlier, any kind of advice would be helpful!
