due diligence with no utilities

More and more, I am coming across homes that have all their utilities off, how are you guys handling inspections during due diligence if the utilities are off?

I don't see the point in getting the utilities in my name for a week.

Turning off is easy...just call and say, "I no longer want them in my name."

That said, in some cases, you may have trouble turning them on in your name. There are two specific situations:

1. There is a past due balance;

2. They've been off for a very long and the utility company requires that you provide proof of ownership before turning them on in your name.

For what it's worth, I've only ran into #1 once and #2 once.
