Finding my starting point

I'm very interested in creating a pathway to financial freedom using real estate. The thing is finding the correct method to so. At the moment I'm currently paying off a $40,000 student loan. Also my credit score is more on the fair side of the credit scale. I've been hearing from other people that my best option is to get an fha loan. If I do obtain an fha how do I move on from there to obtain my next property? Also if an Fha is not the right choice what other options do I have available to get started?
