Guru - Rhode Island do you attend?

Guru workshops coming to providence rhode island, I went to the flip this house workshop in rhode island in 2015 or 2016 and it was a lot of great information and honestly was worth my free time for the first meet up and 200 dollars for the weekend discussions. I never paid the 30k plus for the intensive course and never will but it really fired me up and helped me tremendously in exponentially building my credit.

Just wondering if anyone with properties is planning on going or what you guys think. i truly enjoyed it and now want to hear information now that I have 2 properties and a sale under my belt. I am also a financial advisor, so figured it would be a great networking event in a topic I am passionate about.

Hi Sherwin,

Congratulations on your success thus far!  I'll chime in as the "tiny bit of experience" voice.  If the seminar is only a couple of hundred dollars, it may be worth it just to network and spend a day surrounded by a topic that you enjoy...nothing wrong with that.  For anything more than that, personally, I would hire a local coach who knows my market (if you're looking to buy local).   I haven't pulled the trigger on that yet, but I'd consider spending thousands on that over the programs that sweep through town today and forget about you tomorrow.

I agree with the others that our local group is fantastic, and you'll leave hoping that the month goes by fast to get to the next one :)  Also a good sign that you're loving what you do...and that's pretty fantastic.  Hope to meet you at the next one!

@Sherwin Vargas attendance at our local REIA has been through the roof, literally standing room only, probably at least 50% more than a few months ago and all new faces.

I'd had coffee with one new investor who said that at least one guru was coming through town, with a "free" (teaser) seminar in January and the (first) one that costs money in February, so I attributed it to that, but if even more are coming through town then I guess they're going to have to get a bigger room (lol).

I did my time in seminars-ville in the mid 2000s so I won't be going to the latest round. You can only listen through so many sales seminars, they all generally follow the same formula: establish credibility with stories of success for the guru and her/his students, throw out a few tidbits of information, create a sense of urgency (Limited Time Only and Special One-Time Discount Pricing), and get people to pay to enter the next level of the sales funnel.

I hope I don't sound too jaded :D

But with so much free information available (here on BP, on YouTube, in BOOKS which someone probably spent months organizing into a coherent and understandable information package), it's hard to justify literally thousands of dollars on seminars and coaching programs these days.

At the very least, if someone is going to go to one of these seminars I strongly recommend leaving the credit cards at home. Seriously. Not kidding.

Trust me, they'll be happy to take your money 24-48 hours after the sales presentation, if you still want it after the sales magic has worn off.

(And if you do, you might try contacting previous "students" and seeing if you can buy the seminar materials at a discount. After they dust them off, I think many students would be happy to get some of their money back.)

But there I go sounding jaded again ;)

Overall I consider them to be a waste of time. I do enjoy going once in awhile for the motivation and for the networking. If you really want to go to a networking event though we have one in Warwick once a month. The Rhode Island Real Estate Investors Group. We had over a hundred people there last Thursday. About 20% of people that show up are millionaires. About 50% own a few properties and the rest haven't started yet. It's a great group.

yes i did look up that real estate group and seen the next one isn't for a month. Just missed it

Will definately be attending. I looked it up in decenber but wanted to get acclimated to the city and dealing with awful contractors in the recent renovation.

As for the guru i will not be buying anything. Last one i went to the guy was just great and taught alot to everyone there. Even said it is better to take the money for the seminar and buy a house with it but if your uncomfortable taking that risk then do the seminar haha.

He just had great hints for when i had 0 experience under my belt and was wondering if now that i have a tiny bit of experience if it was worth going.
