NC General Contractors license capital requirements
Hello all. I am trying to get my GC license in NC (Johnston County is where I live outside Raleigh). I have a lot of experience building over the years doing porches, decks, kitchen remodels, and rough framing. I saw that you have to have $17,000 in cash or a surety bond in the amount of $350,000 in order to pass the financial portion in order to get licensed for the limited license. My question is... has anyone gotten a surety bond in NC for their GC license? If so, how much did it cost? I don’t have $17,000 in cash but I’ve dreamt of getting my GC license for years. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your time.
