Self Directed IRA Administrator Recommendations

Hi BP,

I know self directed IRA's are a popular option for those looking to use retirement funds to invest in real estate. There are very few providers who are local and the one I did find I found to be rather expensive (at least compared to what I expected). They charge $1000/year until you reach $170K and then their fee is 60 basis points of your balance.

I figure it would be good to at least check out two other providers and thought this site would be great for recommendations. Thanks in advance for your help!

Matt

@Matt Gallacher

The fees vary across the board for those who offer self-directed retirement accounts. Like @Tahra Wright suggested, they do not need to be local to you. As long as they are reachable for emails, calls and physical mailings.

Bigger pockets has a list of providers at this link. My recommendation is you check out a couple websites, narrow it down to your top 3 and call each one. I personally place speed, efficiency and customer service first. Fees are important, but if its a small difference, I choose the custodian/ administrator that I feel is faster and more customer service oriented.
