Real Estate Investment for beginners

Jessica Curry
Posted

Hello colleagues! My husband and I are both in aerospace and are eager to start in real estate investments...what is the best way to get started? We went to a Fortune Builders workshop for 3 days and they wanted us to spend $35-$50K to get their training...I thought that was a bit steep! Is there a better way to get started? Thank you!

Hi @Jessica Curry and welcome to BiggerPockets!

I always maintain that Investor Skill #1 is the ability to recognize a deal. I'd recommend you get started by reaching out to all your friends and family and asking them to contact you if they have a problem involving real estate. You want them calling you with houses that won't sell, tenants who won't pay, repairs they can afford, and everything in between.

As the problems start flowing in, get some practice listening, asking good questions, and extracting relevant info. Then, you can pick just one of these problems and come back here and post it for ideas on how to solve it. (As an aside, I also strongly suggest you join your local real estate investment association, or REIA).

That's far cheaper and waay more productive than coughing up $35K!
