Major source for property value info

So when we begin looking at properties and we need to get information on property values where should we check? Are there any major sources we should use to find information such as assessed value of the property, property tax info, taxable value, previous sales prices and other related information? Do we get that from the county website or from somewhere else?

The county appraiser would be a good start for tax assessment values... but these have little to do with true market value.

For single family homes other smaller properties, nothing beats sales stats from the multiple listing service. Build relationships with local brokers who understand investment properties and they'll be able to get you whatever info you need, and offer educated opinions.
