Moving to Japan (military) but want my first investment property

I have told myself that I will begin real estate investing after finishing pilot training, and now the time has come. However, I will be going to Okinawa, Japan for the assignment.

I am very set on getting my first property before leaving to Japan after half a year of training in Oklahoma; preferably looking for a multifamily unit and using a property manager.

The question is where should I get it? I have family ties in Bloomington, IN. I am also considering Oklahoma City, which will be 2 hours away from my training. But since I will be long distance I am really open to any cities.

I appreciate any suggestions and comments!

Hi Teho, Im a local investor in Bloomington Indiana and I’d be happy to help you find a multifamily property to invest in. I also know several very good property management companies if you’re looking for that as well. Send me a message on BP to talk more about the great opportunities in Bloomington!

I am partial to the OKC area. ;)

But, just know that we don't have a ton of multifamily inventory.  And there is a lot of competition for the inventory that does hit the market. If you go the OKC route, just be ready to act fast once you find something you like.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about the area. I would be happy to help.

Appreciate the insight and offer Cassi. I'm starting to believe that OKC and any other cities outside of Bloomington might not be good for me given the competition and that I'll need a property manager.

I am currently in Okinawa and bought my first property while stationed out here. It’s good to be there firsthand but it is definitely possible to get one while out here.

Don’t rush into a property just because you’re leaving the country!
