Tax Deed Auction Sale

Hi everyone am in South Florida, and I was looking into doing wholesaling. I see a property on the public tax deed list that is coming up in Jan. I have done my research on the liens and property taxes owed. My question is with the tax deed auction coming up in Jan is it too late to try to purchase from the owner before then or just bid at the auction?
