Where to start flip or brrrr?

I’m a general contractor in Northern California. And would like to get my money working for me vs always work for my money and it disappearing. So my question is would flipping some houses be a better way to start before jumping into the BRRRR strategy? I have a good knowledge of the building aspects but when it comes to the real estate side of things I’m lacking a bit. Also with the market in California it seems the prices are up there so the risk is up there too. Any insight would be awesome!
