Should I start by becoming a real estate agent? Long post sorry.
Hey everyone!
bottom line up front: I am seriously considering trying to get a job as a real estate agent. I think it could help me fund early investments, make connections and gain experience in the market. Is this a good idea?
I have been consuming content at a massive rate and have a long way to go before I can jump into my first deal. Im super fortunate to have a fiancee who is on board with me giving this a serious effort however house hacking with a 7 year old and a newborn isn't something I can sell her on. Currently I am going to University using my GI Bill with no real plan on what to do with the degree, and I side hustle with lyft and uber, the income gets me by but it's still a student's income. On one of my rides I drove an agent and his wife to diner and he made his job sound really appealing. We were both military, clicked well and he invited me meet with him to go over what a potential career in real estate might look like. We have the steady income of my fiancee's government job so I'm not worried about not being able to afford the essentials. The extra income could be used to add to our savings for investments and I don't really see a down side to having a job with a real estate firm other then potential opportunity costs i'm currently blind to. But that's why I'm here.
In my head i'm seeing this:
Go to the class, get licensed, find a job as an agent, work really hard to save extra money and fund some investments, complete a BRRRR and continue to until I can snowball that capital into less hours selling houses in a few years and more time with family and aging parents.
Anyone have any insight for me? Am I being overly optimistic about the benefits being a real estate agent can add in these very early stages of my investing? Open to any and all thoughts.
Thanks in advance!
Respectfully,
Perry Rinato
