Developing Land for a Tiny House

Nathan Birkedal

Does anyone have experience w/ developing land for Tiny house connections?

I want to find a modest way of living, or possibly AirBnb out a unit in an urban area.

The lot that is for sale has adjacent properties w/ stationary houses. So I am assuming utilities can be tapped near by.

I know these for sale posts are trying to attract new construction, but does anyone know if my idea can be done, or who to reach out to?

My goal is to get a list of people I would need to contact, or actions that need to be completed, so I could estimate a cost.

I am not a home owner, and I do not own any other units. I am new to REI. So a lot of my questions may stem from not know much about the construction process in general.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

@Nathan Birkedal you need to dive into the building dept requirements in your area. Depending on the location (and zoning) they may have certain size requirements. In my county a house can be "tiny" but it must have a "cooking area", "bathing area", a "bedroom" (not less than 77 square feet with a proper egress window and closet). I have done a unit under 200 square feet that met all the requirements. Of course you also must have proper heating, electrical, plumbing, etc. One of the problems with a tiny house is the economic scale. It costs just as much to buy a toilet, kitchen appliances, hook up to utilities etc. - no matter the square footage - so that can make the house kinda pricey for its size. What I have done is create multiple units on one piece of land - either adding "tiny" to existing or building two instead of one...
