I’m brand new, a nurse who wants to invest, but unsure how

Hey guys. I’m a registered nurse with zero experience in real estate. However, I’m learning very quickly that working for someone else and showing up for a job 5 days a week isn’t something I find pleasurable. I’ve been listening to the podcast a bit and talking with a nursing buddy who feels the same way I do, how does someone like me get started? I’m hungry.

Hello Rob! Welcome to BP!

As another nurse/real estate investor, welcome!

Nursing is a great career that will allow you to really advance your real estate investing. I would start out by thinking about "house hacking." It doesn't have to be in the traditional sense of buying a multifamily and living in half of it although that is always a great place to start if you can. I started out by house hacking a regular single family rental (basically I bought a house and had roommates help pay the bills).

Instead of only renting out to traditional roommates, you could also look into renting out to contract/travel nurses or a combo of both. Travel nurses usually get a really nice housing stipend and you could charge a premium as these are basically long "short term rentals."

There are tons of opportunities in real estate, but that's probably the direction I would start in.
