Age at which you started investing in rentals
So I just finshed the bigger pockets book on rental property investing and I‘m completely new to this forum. At what age did you start buying up rentals? I’m 43 and have 2 summer rentals that mostly happened by accident. First house was a vacation home that we bought in 2005 and it then lost almost half its value. We tried to sell for several years and then tried to rent it unsuccessfully through a realtor. We then discovered homeaway and rented an “unrentable” property for 120 nights and will actually profit on the house this year for the 1st time in 13 years. Bought a 2nd house in same location this year and it will be immediately profitable as a summer rental on the NJ shore. Question is should I be content with these 2 places making us money (next year i estimate 50k profit) when I’d need probably 4x that to quit my job? Am I too late to game if I’d like to be retired by 55? I’d like to go all in and quit my day job but I’m not sure the risk is worth it at my age. If I’d discovered this investment technique at 25 I’m sure I’d own 50 properties but now I’m maybe too risk averse. Would appreciate any insight from the forum.
