Converting a single family ranch style home to a multi family

I'm looking to purchase a 2300sqft. Ranch home with a basement to convert to a multi family. The basement has a separate entrance and bathroom has already been installed what other changes I need to make it legal. Will the bedrooms need a window and closet. This is my first attempt at buying rental property I need input.
