How to direct one's education? Real Estate's a broad subject

Hello fellow investors,

I am in the beginning stages and I'm starting with education. I am personally interested in the Buy & Hold strategy. However, real estate is such a broad field, everytime I dive into something around the corner there's always something new and honestly it's pretty scary. I got an idea of how real estate deals go but I know when your actually doing the deal there's many intricacies that may or may not be covered from a general guide. While I think the best way to learn these is through a mentor, is there any guide or advice on how to narrow down to learn the many subjects of real estate?

I'm going to start with reading popular real estate books but how could I put my learning in a good direction without missing an important topic? I wanted to ask because I'm afraid I'd be bouncing through different topics rather than go from point A to Z.
