Ann - You can browse this site for days and you'll get lots of ideas on different ways you can get started. If you can narrow your question down a bit I think you'll get more actionable responses from the community. The first thing I'd want to know is if you already have a preferred investing strategy. If so, what is it? And tell us about your situation. Are you sitting on a pile of cash from a surprise inheritance? Are you living pay check to pay check? What's your current level of knowledge about real estate and investing? Do you have any strengths that might worth exploiting in the investing space? Etc.....
If you do not already have a strategy in mind, I'd recommend that you take a little time to research this topic. At some point in your self-directed education you're going to say "Yes! THIS is the type of investing I want to do!" Once you know that, I think you'll have a much easier time getting started.
As a teacher, I'm sure you'll appreciate that it's better to teach a man to fish... but I'll throw you a bone :) Click Here to search BiggerPockets for information on different investing strategies.
Thanks and good luck!
