Do you subscribe to the county recorders website in your area?

Newbie question... Do you subscribe or pay to access the county your wanting to do business in? I think I'm finding it to be a must if you want to actually do any research on properties. The initial cost is $150 and that's for the Digital recorder services agreement data services agreement, and then there's other options that are alot more.
