Finding Out Rent Prices in Areas

Melinda Smith

This is probably a very basic question, but I'm a newbie and haven't found anything via the search option for my question. I live in the DFW area where rent prices fluctuate depending on which part of the metroplex you are in (which is probably typical in most places). Other than just knowing the areas you want to focus on and through experience, are there websites that you use to quickly determine the rental comps? TIA!

rentometer.com can give you an idea, too.

The real answer is to do some research. Google maps or rentometer can give a gross idea, but if you're trying to actually price your rental, you have to look more closely. Look on craigslist and drive the area. Call the ads and for-rent signs. Find out about rents, deposit, amenities, what you pay for (e.g., electric and gas but not water), and whatever else you think matters.
