renting out rooms in a townhouse

I am getting close to purchasing my first rental property.  It is a townhouse with two bedrooms each with a full bath.  The basement has a kitchenette and would be a separate rental.  The basement also has a separate entrance and would not be furnished.

The upstairs bedroom renters would share the living room and kitchen.  I am planning on furnishing the living room and kitchen, but not the bedrooms.

Rent for all three renters would include utilities.

My question is about the upstairs renters.  Since it would be two renters, would it be weird to have a male and a female renter?  Should they be the same gender?  Do I introduce them to each other?  Do any of you all have experience with this?

I appreciate any advice.  Thank you!
