Hickory, NC rental investing

We are just starting out investing. We just flipped a house in Port Charlotte, FL and it didn't go so well. It was on the market for a few months and we ended up not really making any money in the deal. We are now looking at starting investing in rentals. We having moved to Asheville, NC and are looking at Hickory since prices seem very high in Asheville. Does anyone have any experience in Hickory? A good idea? I looked at the CAP rates and they looked good enough (over 7%). Can anyone recommend a realtor or a property management company. We are suffering from a little Analysis Paralysis and are now saying "Should we go back to Florida and try Sarasota?"
