*First Ever Post* Getting started before my wedding!
Hey it’s my first post on BP, i’m trying to get more involved on the forums and the site in general because i’ve heard from almost everyone on the podcasts that it’s been a tremendous help for them. So i’m just starting out, looking to get into long term buy and hold rental properties. I’ve read Brandon Turner’s Rental Properties book and Low (no) Money Down investing book, along with some other non-BP related books. Also i’ve been listening to all the BP podcasts nonstop so I’m learning a lot and trying to learn as much as I can before my first property.
So i’m 23, still living with my parents, and planning on getting married next year. My girlfriend and I wanted to buy a single family to live in, but after some researching and some eye openers (thanks Rich Dad Poor Dad) I realized I wanted to start acquiring assets and start my way towards passive income. We’re from Westchester NY, which is an expensive place to start Real Estate investing (at least for me).
So my plan is to save up as much as I can now that I have little expenses living with my parents, so I can start with some “House Hacking”. The thing is, it’d have to be AT LEAST a triplex, preferably a fourplex. I ran the numbers on some that are for sale around where i’m able to buy and with a triplex(I’ve been finding them anywhere from $400k to 600k) i’d still have to pay $1000 or so to live there. And fourplexes have been very very difficult to find
I’m looking for some advice on this part- since im only getting married towards the end of 2019, should I speak to an agent already to tell them what i’m looking for? Even when im not quite ready to invest just yet, or not being sure if i could get a loan yet? I expect to be ready to buy only in several months. On one of the podcasts someone who was on the show who lives near me said it took them almost a year and a half just to have one of their offers accepted. I wouldn’t want to get married and not have found a place to live yet!
Thanks guys and sorry for the long first post!
