Estimating repairs? How did you learn to do it?

Hey seasoned investors. I am new to the real estate game. I am wondering how you all went about estimating the cost to fix up a home. Did you pay a contractor to teach you? Or what would someone with experience recommend to a newbie investor. I just don't know what road to take and I know when doing flips every number counts especially using someone elses money.

As you keep getting quotes for your projects you will start to realize the average cost of items. Wouldn’t hurt to shadow a general contractor and go on bids with them to get more under your belt. If you hire a solid contractor on your projects you should ask some questions about how they price items. A good contractor would be able to give you a range of rehab costs for all the major items.
