Understanding the town you are investing in?

I’ve been a bigger pockets member for a while now, and finally have enough saved up to get started. I’m looking at a 3 unit building. The deal looks pretty good so far, but I’m not that familiar with the town it is in. I’m wondering what you guys do to educate yourself about the laws, regulations, taxes, dealing with inspectors, codes, etc. I’ve been looking at the towns website which is helpful, but are their any other resources you use so you aren’t blindsided by unexpected costs or issues? I’m specifically looking in Addison, IL, for anyone familiar with the area. Thanks Jack
