Astoria Oregon Real Estate Greenhorn Looking for Investments

Hey guys!

Completely brand new to this investing market. Been wanting to get into this type of field for awhile now, but never had the drive to start until recently.

My name is David and I'm from San Diego, although I am currently living in Astoria Oregon. I'm enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and have been so for nine years now. I have done my fair share of moving and have always kicked myself for not buying a house in the other places that I live. It seems like the market here in Astoria is absolutely terrible, but I would love to learn how to get into it. I have absolutely zero experience in real estate investing, but I am eager and ready to learn!  I was discussing with my wife the possible options to furthering our income by investing in the stock market. I was trolling around on reddit when I came across someone who mentioned this site. I signed up yesterday and began taking, "A Beginner's Introduction to Real Estate Investing" videos. I have been taking notes and trying to understand as much as possible.

I can say honestly that I am a little scared to get started in this. I know this is a fantastic field to get into and I would like to obtain all the information that I can before jumping in the deep end.

My goals for real estate investment are to:

Acquire a comfortable steady monthly income that I can use to further invest in the market. Ideally, I would like to create a portfolio large enough one day to afford myself the option of no longer having to work. From the sound of things, it seems like owning multiple rental properties might be my current ideal option; however, I am not opposed to other avenues of investments. I am still attempting to learn the basics.

Any tips on getting started would be greatly appreciated. I am almost completely debt free at the moment (under $2k in bills with both cars paid off) and would like to learn how I can allocate my income into a proper investment portfolio.
