Getting started but no house

Hello all, this is my first post as i am new to the site and new to REI as well. I have started listening to podcasts, reading books and much more. Although i will do much more studying and hopefully find a reliable mentor soon, i was just curious if i should wait to do any investing at all until i get my own house. My wife and i are looking to purchase a house (our first house) in January and honestly have struggled with money for some time living paycheck to paycheck. We have our first child due in October and im wanting to turn my life around for us and my baby boy on the way. They are my "why" and what will drive me to go as far as i can possibly go. thanks!
