US Tax Lien Association solid training?

Hello,

Has any one taken the 3 day course $1497.00 with US Tax Lien Association?  Is it worth it and is it reputable?

First timer here and first post.  I've learned so much from all of you, much obliged for all your wisdom. Much love.

I have been part of USTLA and felt they had very good training and tips. I would sit in on the mentor protege calls on a weekly basis. I went to their weekend training, but seemed like the networking with others in the class was more useful. In the end there was a pitch to sign up for their self directed 401k program. I found out who did it for them and the cost was 1/4 what they charged at the workshop.

They also offered a deal, but I didn't feel ready . That was a few years ago, before I found Bigger Pockets. I feel like I can find all the networking and education here without the selling and classes teaching one strategy.

It's unfortunate that there is often an inverse relationship between (a) the amount of marketing an education/guru company does and (b) the actual value of the services provided.

The initial sale made by such companies are really part of getting unsuspecting consumers into a sales funnel that leads to selling the consumer an education course for $10,000's. Beware.

@Jodi Adams I see it is your first post so welcome to BP.

I am not sure there is a legitimate tax sale trainer that is a national player. The laws vary so much from state to state that it would be almost impossible for an organization to know it to the degree the people you are competing against do. I still see tax sale trainers quoting a rate in MD that is higher than any I have seen in the 15 years I have done this.

A novice tax lien investor I had advised came to me one time and mentioned he worked for one of the national tax sale trainers. (maybe USTLA, I don' remember specifically)  He had to come to me for advice and yet was training others.

I took a tax sale attorney to breakfast and he told me all that I felt I needed to get started. That was 15 years ago. I was at his office today for a property settlement.  I would try to find someone local to where you want to invest and learn what you can.  Instead of $1500 in training you could buy some liens and consider the $1500 you are saving as a cushion for losses.

Just attended a local USTLA three-day training last week.   Although I did learn a little and met some awesome folks I feel as though I learned more from this website and other free resources on the internet than I did from what I found to be an outdated home study course and this extremely high-level Three Day Seminar.

The seminar I found to be 10% focused on education and 90% focused on selling the coaching programs that are designed and intended to guide the recipient to earn in upwards of $100k/ per annum in investing.    Did not sign up for any of the coaching so can't speak to the effectiveness but at this time I feel as though the path I am taking to be the most profitable.

Can anyone please recommend some legitimate tax lien training?

Like some of the others on this thread, I am new to Tax Lien investing and recently found the US Tax Lien Association as well.  When a representative called me, he told me that for $1495.00 I would get all of the training I would ever need to start making very lucrative deals. He said all of my questions would be answered, and I would have a year's worth of phone support and mentoring if I needed it.  THEN, I looked them up on the BBB and found they had some serious complaints, with one person planning to sue.  Some other reviews claim that in fact they didn't get all the answers for their $1495.00 training and that USTLA was trying to high pressure sell them on a elite package between 25-33K, in order to get those answers.  Now I'm too spooked to sign up with them.  I am serious about doing some investing, and hope to find a solution I can trust.  Thoughts anyone?

@Ned Carey, I appreicate the welcome. thank you for that info.  It does seem kind of fishy for a coach to lack that knowledge.
