Getting started in real estate

Israel Rodriguez
  • Los Angeles, CA
Posted

I'm looking to get started in real estate but I'm not quite sure where to begin. I'm sure others have been in my place before, so any advice or tips on where to start or anything related that might give me an idea of the options available when starting out is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.(Not sure if it matters but this is my first time posting on the forums)

WELCOME TO BP @Israel Rodriguez!

I am not far removed from being new. I was an accidental landlord (bought a house, needed to relocate but didn't want to sell, so i opted to rent my house out). I am now on my 5th buy and hold deal.

I wish i would have house hacked starting out. House hacking is when you buy a multifamily house (duplex, triplex, etc..) and rent out the other units while living in one of the units.

This is a great way to see if you want to be a landlord without too much risk. The upside is that you can generally buy a multifamily with 4 or fewer units as a residential. In other words, you can use FHA and Conventional financing.

Lot's of articles about house hacking and getting started in here. Arm yourself with knowledge but don't get bogged down in the details!

Good luck to you!
