Beginner investor looking for Advise

Hello Bigger pockets Family. I want to start off by thanking the Admin and founder of this site. I find every minuscule piece of information to be insightful. My name is Jamal McPherson i am a 24 year old college student pursuing a degree in criminal justice. I'm adamant  about starting my real estate venture in The northwest Indiana, or South Suburbs of Chicago. I just need a bit of assistance on how to get started. I am in the process of credit reparation. I was in the military and sort of got myself into some financial trouble so my credit score is not the best. My plan is to use the Va loan to purchase a small Triplex or Quadplex to begin, and expand from there. Is there anyone familiar with the process?  I have been doing a bunch of researching, and found that this Niche would be the best for long term cash flow. If any experienced investors have any advice please feel more than free to chime in.
