Interested in duplex with leaky basement

I'm looking at a duplex and the seller discloser said that the basement leaks.  Is this something that needs to be repaired immediately before it results in serious damage or can I just own a house with a leaky basement?  I assume this is something tothat doesn't have to be repaired right away, and would be expensive to fix, but I thought I would ask here. Thanks!
