I have somewhat of a plan on what I want to do, critiques welcome

Hi, I am very new to this. I would like to start investing in real estate. I am currently in the military an plan to purchase a four-plex utilizing a VA loan. I plan to live in one unit and rent out the rest. Eventually I plan to do the same with another four-plex about 2-5 years down the line. Afterwards I would like to venture into buying and flipping houses while maintaining 8 units. What can I expect when purchasing, renting, ect? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
