Moving to Florida to start a career

From Louisiana moving around the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area in a few months to start my career as a real estate agent & investor. I'm looking to buy my first residential property, but don't know if I should find a good deal on a multi-family house if available or a single family home. I have about $15k saved up and can apply for a FHA since this will be my first property ever purchased. Young and still learning, any advice would be greatly appreciated. It's been my dream to leave Louisiana.
