Seeking advise on real estate and living arrangements

Hi! I am new to the BiggerPockets community and seeking advise. Currently I rent out an apartment to live in. My lease will be up in June, when I will be moving somewhere with my boyfriend. I want to start real estate and was wondering if I should keep renting an apartment or buy a house or buy a multi family property and live in one of the units with my boyfriend and rent out the rest ? I have a salary job and not much savings at the moment but I want to make it work.
