How do I get start in the world of community development?

I am interested in real estate investment, but I am also interested in development. I'm young, so obviously I don't have a lot of experience. I'm just trying to get some advice on where to begin in regards to education on the basics and fundamentals of residential and commercial development.

Also, if anyone would like to share their stories of how they started out in real estate investment, and their level of success, I'd be very interested to read about it.
