Getting mailing address for the owner of a vacant house

My business partner and I are having trouble finding the owner's mailing address for his vacant home in San Bernardino County. Although it is very distressed, it really shows promise in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. I've tried several county records and tax assessor's links, but keep on running into this : Protected per CA Govt. Code Sect. 6254.21.

Any suggestions on how I could find it?

Maybe put in a personal visit to the local assessor's office and explain your problem. Thinking one mailing address for the tax bill should be public record and you go from there. Best of luck with your investment.

Yeah I think Michael has a point, lets make it our priority to go the tax assessors office on Monday Morning!

@Miguel Martinez Have you tried PropertyRadar.com or a title company? Property Radar will show the mailing address of the person on title.

That info requires owner written permission to grant that address information by law.

Just go to the site ask the neighbor how to get hold of home owner.

@Miguel Martinez  Go ask the neighbors, someone in the neighborhood probably knows the owner. If you have his name, look him up on social media. If he's too old for the Facebooks, try a site like Intelius and find the names of his relatives and contact them on Facebook. If all else falls, make a homemade bandit sign that says "I want to buy this house, If you know the owner, call me @XXX-XXXX"   and stick it in the front yard.

"No state or local agency shall post the home address or telephone number of any elected or appointed official on the Internet"

The trouble on that record is that the home is owned by a politician, and after one was murdered or harassed some years back they changed the law to exempt themselves from being in the public record. If you want to PM me the address I can check our systems and let you know if we have it. Otherwise asking neighbors is your best bet.

@Ryan Carter In California, no county will post the owner’s mailing address online because of the cited Government Code section. It’s too time/labor intensive for them to figure out who is an affected elected/appointed official in each county (and then keep updating that information), so they just don’t post the names of ANY property owners online.

However, the information on property ownership is still a matter of public record. You just have to contact the county assessor’s office directly to get it. Some will provide it by email, and some make you go into their office and get it in person. But you’ll definitely be able to get it. Just not online.

If you find yourself needing to constantly lookup a lot of properties, that may not be the most efficient way to get it though because you won’t want to keep going down to the assessor’s office (I’m guessing). So, in that case, you may need to consider using a paid service like Sean’s Property Radar
